Roy Donald Fain “Don” passed away with his children by his side on October 19th, 2023.

Don was born to C. Roy & Margie (Thomas) Fain on October 27th, 1947 in Dallas, Texas. Don was raised by his grandmother Della Lee Fain in Vernon, Texas after his mother’s death when Don was an infant. Don grew up in Vernon and attended Vernon schools until his senior year when he left school to join the Marine Corps Reserve. He would later return to Vernon to attend VRJC after his military career.

Don’s military career started in the Marine Corps Reserve in 1964 where he was an aircraft mechanic with the 1st Aviation Brigade and the 704th Field Maintenance.

He then went on to join the Army in September, 1966 where he deployed to Korea for one year returning in September 1967. From 1966-70, Don was stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia with the 197th Aviation Co, 10th Aviation Grp, 3rd Army that included two separate tours in Vietnam from 1967-1970. From 1970-73, Don was with the PCF HQ CMD USA FACFS 5th Army where he deployed three more tours to Vietnam. His military career ended when he left the Army in 1973 as a Staff Sergeant. Don’s military achievements included; National Defense Medal, Achievement Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device-1960, Vietnam Service Medal w/Silver Service Star and two Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, ACFT CRMMS Badge, Expert Rifleman Bar and six Overseas Bars.

Following his military career, Don worked different trades but he enjoyed his maintenance career and painting the most. His career took him to many different places such as Bonham TX, Davidson OK, Altus Air Force Base OK, Ogden UT, St George UT, Abilene TX, Mesquite NV & Marshall AR.

Don was a lifetime and proud member of the VFW. He enjoyed attending flea markets and shopping for antiques. When his kids were younger, he enjoyed taking them fishing and camping at different lakes around Oklahoma and Texas. He enjoyed touring different museums, talking with other military vets, cooking and trying different types of food.

Don was preceded in death by his parents C. Roy and Margie (Thomas) Fain, his Grandmother Della Lee Fain, half-brother Michael Fain and Aunt Dorothy Dawson.

Don is survived by his sons, Donald Crawford of Port Angeles, WA. and Jimmy “Heath” Allsup of Granite, OK. His daughters Elizabeth and husband Jose Garcia of Stockton, CA., Margie and husband Christopher Solis of Blair, OK., Samantha Fain of Mangum, OK., brother Charles Fain of Austin, TX., sister Doris Fain Whitten of Sherman, TX. Don’s grandchildren are Sergio, Holly, Paula, Aprille, Kelsi, Saige, Zynn, Sadee, Rhyder, Brynlee, Collins, Myla and a new baby boy on the way. Don’s great grandchildren are Lily, Kash, James, Jett and Owen. Don is also survived by a niece, Monica Morris, special friend Shawn Johnson and mother of his children, Barbara Hite Fain.
